
There once was a time when I thought pumpkins stole the spotlight during fall, but as the years have progressed I’ve realized apples truly due rule the season. There is nothing quite like the smell of apples cooking on the stovetop, which just gives me so many excuses to make stovetop apple butter!
What do you need to make apple butter for? For everything! It’s delicious on bread, scones, and more! My absolute favorite thing to do is to spread apple butter on a cracker with extra sharp white cheddar cheese. Yum!

How to Make Stovetop Apple Butter
Notes: Takes about 2 hours to make.

Ingredients
- 5 1/2 pounds of Apples
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of Brown Sugar
- 1/2 cup of White Sugar
- 2 tsp of Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp of ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp of nutmeg

Directions
- Core, peel, and chop apples. Add to a tall pot with water and cover with a lid. Cook over medium heat, stirring apples occasionally. When apples are soft, blend with an immersion blender.
- Reduce heat to low. In a separate bowl, combine sugar and spices. Add to pot of pureed apples slowly, while stirring the pot.
- Cover pot with lid and continue to cook until it does not run off a spoon, about 1-2 hours. Make sure to stir regularly, and monitor closely to make sure it doesn’t burn.
